Latest Football Transfers, Jan. 29, 2018: Manchester City set to seal Aymeric Laporte transfer

Manchester City now hope to complete the £57million capture of Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte in the next 24 hours. The 23-year-old was left out of his Spanish club’s squad against Eibar on Friday night, with the Premier League leaders set to meet his buy-out clause.
Laporte has said his goodbyes over the weekend to his teammates at Bilbao, who are understood to have signed shirts to convey their good wishes. His signing would give City one of the most expensive back-lines in football, with boss Pep Guardiola already having signed £50m Kyle Walker, £49m Benjamin Mendy and £47.5m John Stones.
The Frenchman is now set to complete a medical with the champions-elect. City are also eyeing up Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk as Guardiola looks to respond to Manchester United’s stunning signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal. They are also in talks to land Lille starlet Boubakary Soumare, while a summer deal is being lined up for another 18-year-old midfielder — Paris Saint-Germain’s Claudio Gomes.
