DRC is a Danish international non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world. DRC is present in more than 30 conflict territories around the world assisting displaced people with shelter, food, income generating activities, legal aid and a wide range of other protection assistance.
Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a unit within DRC Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a Humanitarian Mine Action Unit in the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). DDG operates in some of the most fragile and conflict-affected places in the world. The focus is on those countries most affected by landmines and other explosive remnants of war as well as widespread proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
DRC-Kenya Program works primarily with displaced Somalis and Kenyan communities who host them. The programming’s main focus is livelihoods and protection during displacement and possible return.
Job Purpose:
To provide the Finance Officer and the Nairobi program team with financial support including: processing all income and expenditure, inputting transactions onto the Navision accounting system and scanning of finance documents.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that financial information is processed in accordance with DRC Finance procedures/processes
  • Handling all cash and bank transactions
  • Daily booking of expenses in cash-books
  • Maintain accounting spreadsheets/documentation as per stipulated DRC finance/accounting guidelines
  • Ensure that proper authorization has been obtained before any payment takes place
  • Ensure that all vouchers are properly coded (project no., budget line and G/L account)
  • Processing all payments in a timely manner
  • Voucher Scanning/Archiving
  • Maintain, control and reconcile cash and bank balances on a daily basis
  • Reconciliation of advances and settlements
  • Maintenance of a proper and transparent filling system of all documents relation to finance
  • Ensure that logistics follows stipulated procurement procedures; attaching the necessary supporting documentation before making payments to suppliers/ vendors
  • Ensure all monthly bills i.e. rent, security, utilities are paid in a timely manner
  • Support the DDG/DRC SMT with finance processes and the field teams as needed.
  • Any other duty as may be delegated or requested by the Finance Officer/HoFA.
Personal Specifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Finance from a recognized institution
  • CPA Section II or any other relevant accounting qualification
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Stable and robust character and a good team-player
  • Experience in working in NGO is highly desirable
  • Ability to work in a busy office, demanding high levels of concentration to ensure accuracy
  • Ability to observe and maintain client confidentiality
  • Proven commitment to accountability practices
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
