About The Role
As Marketing Director of East Africa, you will design and implement Tala’s marketing strategy to grow our brand and customer base throughout East Africa. You will work with our local and global teams as well as external partners to lead and execute marketing initiatives that drive both brand awareness and user growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • General
  • Recruit and build out Tala’s marketing team in Nairobi, including full-time hires and external agency partners
  • Develop and monitor budgets for consumer marketing activities
  • Develop marketing roadmap for East Africa

  • User Acquisition + Retention

    • Design, plan and execute consumer marketing strategies
    • Define success metrics, monitor campaign spending, and proactively make recommendations about how to optimize campaigns and investment across channels (working with agencies)
    • Help develop go-to-market strategy for new products and services as well as expansion into new East African markets

  • Brand Awareness

    • Design and implement Tala’s Brand Ambassador Program
    • Develop and implement a PR strategy working with external agencies
    • Implement BTL / offline marketing campaigns
    • Create innovative PR / buzz marketing efforts
    • Produce and distribute relevant editorial content to the target audience via digital and non-digital channels
    • Manage an editorial calendar and work with freelance writers or influential bloggers to develop content for online distribution.
    • Conduct periodic brand and user assessments

    • You have experience building both offline and digital advertising campaigns and have been successful in managing diverse teams.

    • You have strong networks within the media community.
    • You are comfortable interfacing with partner ad agencies and other strategic partners.
    • You are extremely analytical and track progress based on quantitative metrics.
    • You have proven experience with strategic below-the-line marketing activities
    • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • You love and believe in the work we do at Tala. This is a must!
    • You have a bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a business-related discipline, MBA a plus.
    • You are fluent in English and Swahili
